Charles Wesley Simpson, 94, of El Dorado and formerly of Augusta, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 in El Dorado, KS. Memorial service 1:00 p.m. Friday February, 23, 2018 at First Christian Church, El Dorado, KS. Private interment at Walnut Valley Memorial Park, El Dorado, KS. Charles was born in Belmont, Kansas on May 7, 1923, to the late Eleanor Anna "Pansey" Florence  and Henry Simpson. He was the youngest of 6 children; 3 sisters and 2 brothers and they preceded him in death. Charles served as a merchant marine and then was drafted into the Army. He was discharged from the Army after breaking his back in a parachute training accident. He worked in California after the services as an orange juice taster then returned to Kansas where he worked as a harvester. Charles traded his harvest truck for an airplane and flew all over including into Mexico. Charles owned a Western Auto Store which he later sold. Then he moved into his furniture store, Simpson Furniture to sell furniture. He was a member of the Augusta First Baptist Church. On August 4, 1949 he married Vivian Bachelder. They were married 53 years until she died on September 22, 2004. They adopted 2 children, Philip Floyd Simpson and Janelle Simpson Warren. They also preceded him in death. On June 17, 2006 he married Sylvia  Traylor and she survives after 11 years of marriage. He is also survived by: step daughter, Debbie Anderson and husband John and step son, Michael Traylor all of El Dorado. 4 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.
