David Wayne Byrd, age 59 of Augusta, KS passed away Thursday June 1, 2017 at home surrounded by family.  He fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past 2 ½ years.  The service will be 2:30 pm Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Headley Funeral Chapel Augusta, KS.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, KS.  David was born in Houston, TX on June 4, 1957 to Patricia (Share) and Otha L. Byrd, Jr. He spent his childhood in Texas where he attended grade school then moved to Wichita with his family where he finished out junior high and high school.  He was a State wrestling champion at Wichita Heights High School and was offered a scholarship to attend OSU. He did not attend college but had a family instead.  David has held many jobs over the years including heating and air, several areas in the construction field, farming, and worked at Boeing for five years until he made the decision to become self-employed.  He owned and operated several businesses including a flower shop, a body shop and most recently opened Augusta Computer.  He had no experience as an entrepreneur but that never stopped him.  When he got a business idea he went for it. He knew nothing about computers when he decided to open Augusta Computer.  He taught himself everything he needed to know to run the business, which he did successfully until he was no longer able to work due to his illness.   He had a brilliant mind and knew so much about so many things.   If he didn't know how to do something he wanted to do, he would find a way to learn how to do it.  He was definitely a jack of all trades but did not like that term.  David loved to golf and he was very good at it.  He loved riding one of his many motorcycles.  He enjoyed doing body work on cars and keeping his motorcycles running.  He was always working on something.  He was an all-around great guy who was always willing to help others.  He spent many hours helping his boys and their friends with their vehicles.  He would help anyone with anything they asked for.  His greatest accomplishments are his four children and being a great father. He was also a very loving grandfather that would do anything for his grandchildren.  David was a very honest, outspoken and authentic person.  If it was on his mind it came out his mouth, positive or negative.  He married his best friend Kathy (Miller) Byrd on Halloween October 31, 1985 who survives him.  He was a loving and devoted husband.  He is also survived by his mother Patricia (Marvin) Clynch of Wichita, KS; siblings Pamela (Jim) Davis and Sherry Roeser (fiancée, David Brewer) of Wichita, KS; daughters, Lacy Byrd-Becker of Lake Mills, WI, Jessica Hoffmann (Jeffrey) of Oconomowoc, WI; sons, Alex Byrd of Augusta, KS and Tad Byrd (Krista) of Augusta, KS; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Cullen Wollin, Jesse, Ajay, and Asher Becker, Joshua and Hannah Lenartowski and Hattie Byrd;  great granddaughter Josie Shannon; many nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Otha L. Byrd, Jr.,  and brother, Mark Byrd.  Memorial gifts can be sent to Wichita Heights Baptist Church, 6400 N. Hydraulic, Wichita KS 67219:  mailing adderss is P.O Box 100 Kechi, KS 67067.
