Virgil Kay Schowalter, 72, of El Dorado, KS, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017 in El Dorado.  Visitation 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday, October 26, 2017, and service 10:00 am Friday, October 27, 2017, both at Trinity United Methodist Church, El Dorado, KS. Burial will follow at Walnut Valley Memorial Park El Dorado, KS. Virgil  was born in Newton, Kansas on January 8, 1945, to the late Opal (Loucks) and Eno  Schowalter. He was raised in Cassody, KS where he attended grade school, and  graduated from El Dorado High School in 1963.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. Virgil was a lineman at KG&E and retired as a line foreman after 35 years from Western Resources.  After retirement, Virgil owned Etec Inc. He and his wife, Virgie,  were also camp hosts at El Dorado Lake where he did a lot of improvement work.  Virgil enjoyed carving walking sticks and canes, and liked working outside in his flower garden.  He was a very active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, and was a choir member. On February 2, 1968 he married Virgie Lee (Freeman) in Benton, KS who survives him. He is also survived by: son, Tracy  Schowalter and wife Dana of Olathe, KS; daughter, Tonya Schowalter-Thome and husband Mark of Bel Aire, KS; brother, Dean Schowalter and wife Kay of Benton, KS; sister, Darlene Adams of El Dorado, KS; grandchildren, Brock, and Isabella Schowalter, Andy Hernandez-Thome, Ehlie Francis, and Evan Thome. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dennis and Dalin Schowalter; his twin sister, Velda Mae Schowalter.  Memorial donations to Trinity United Methodist Church, 430 Eunice, El Dorado, KS 67042.
