Karen Ruth (Carey) Hufman, 70, Augusta, Kansas, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed from this life on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Kansas Medical Center in Andover, Kansas.
Karen was born July 4, 1947 to Harry Eugene and Betty Ruth (Gwillim) Carey in Iola, Kansas.  She married Chester Leroy Hufman on May 1, 1964 in Augusta, Kansas.  Together, they enjoyed 53 wonderful years of marriage.
Karen attended Mt. Vernon's School of Cosmetology, working for several salons in Augusta and later starting her own home based salon.  Karen worked as a Family Support Worker for the SRS and later realized a life long dream by furthering her education and obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.   She also acted as manager for several family owned businesses including Curves Fitness Centers, Drywall Consultants, and with her husband, Chester, the infamous Momma Salsa.
Karen devoted her life to God and family.  Her love for life was seen in her infectious smile and contagious laughter.  Karen truly displayed a servant's heart for her church.  Many lives were touched through the years by her involvement as a Sunday school teacher, youth director, adult and senior ministry leader, Mpact director and teacher, choir and drama coordinator, and the backpack ministry.  She quickly volunteered for any area of need within the church.
Karen's heart held a special place for family and friends.  She was a mother and grandmother to many within her immediate family, but she was also a spiritual mom to countless others providing encouragement, counseling, and discipleship. Karen was an extraordinary quilter.  Countless homes are graced by the intricate designs, colors, and patterns of her handiwork.  She was also well known for her cooking and baking of family favorites such as pancakes, goulash, fried fish, chicken fried steak, various flavors of homemade ice cream, chocolate cake, bread and cinnamon rolls, and peanut brittle.
We are deeply saddened to lose the Matriarch of this Family.  You were an angel while on this earth and are now spreading your wings in heaven as you watch over your family.
