Elsie Marie Shinkle, 88, of Augusta,
passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. Visitation noon to service at 1 p.m. Friday,
May 5, 2017, Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Fall River, Kansas. Elsie was born
in Severy, Kansas on August 6, 1928, to the late Pearl May (Mead) and James Charles Cotton. She graduated from Fall River
High School. Elsie retired as a postmaster at Fall River Post Office and also had been Fall River Treasurer, City Clerk, Council
member and School Board member. She was a member of the Democratic Committee for Women, a board member of the Greenwood
County Health Board and Fall River Housing Board. Elsie enjoyed traveling and made her home in winter at Avenger, Tex.
On May 18, 1946 she married Donald Rex Shinkle. Rex preceded her in death as well as sons, Don and Danny Shinkle, brothers,
James "Jim" Cotton and William Franklin "Bill" Cotton; sister, Lola Mae Landis; and a grandson, John McCune.
Elsie is survived by: daughters, Linda McCune and husband Dave of Augusta; Lucinda Arnold and husband Lyle of Neodesha; and
Mary Williams and husband Chase of Augusta; daughter in law, Kitty Shinkle; grandchildren, Andrew Shinkle (Lori), David Eugene
McCune Jr., Brian Hart, Dereck Arnold, Justin Arnold, Kris Davidson ( Randy) and Greg Williams (Genae); and 10 great grandchildren.
