Rex Lee Rose, 90, of Augusta, KS, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 in El Dorado. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Rex was born in Leonardville, Kansas on October 7, 1927 to the late Ruby (McBane) and Nester Rose. His folks separated at an early age and he and his brother, Van Dale, were raised by their grandparents, Ida and P. L. McBane. They grew up on a farm near Miltonvale, Kansas.  His brother died at 17 years of age of diabetes. In 1944 Rex joined the U. S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier, Intrepid, during WW II for 18 months in the pacific. He was discharged in July of 1946 and went to work that same month as a telegraph apprentice for the AT & SF Railroad. Rex worked as an Agent - Telegrapher at various locations during the next 12 years. In 1958 he started working at Skelly Refinery in El Dorado, KS and retired from there in 1985.  After retirement he worked for Texaco Refinery - Flour Daniels on several projects as a materials coordinator. Rex was a life member of the El Dorado Elks Lodge and he loved to bowl.  On October 12, 1983 he married Jessie (Shafer) McCartney in Blackwell, OK and she survives. He is also survived by: 5 children, Danny (Kathleen) Lipscomb of Wichita; Cindy (Steve) Schneider of Tribune; Jacque (Steve) Sundgren of Rosalia; Sandra Emlet of Augusta; and Flaxn (Jeff) Huffman of Wichita; 8 grandchildren, Jarod, Justin, Eric and Grant Cowdin; Jamie Swafford; Autumn and Nash Lipscomb; Tylyn Emlet and Kathryn Jones;  4 great grandchildren, Jaxon, Koleson and Greyson Swafford; and Lyla Cowdin. Rex was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jenny Sundgren. Memorial donations may be made to Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, 512 SE 25th Ave Pratt, KS 66612-1327 because of his love of wildlife.
