Betty Jean (DeLong) Walters, 95, of Andover, KS, passed away September 6, 2024. Betty was born in Chautauqua, KS on April 23, 1929, to the late Ida (Anderson) and Raymond DeLong. Betty moved to Wichita at a young age where she later met her husband Joe Walters. They were married in Chanute, KS, December 14, 1947. Betty and Joe enjoyed 73 years together before his death in March, 2020. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She became a trailblazer in education as she began her career as secretary at Robert Martin Elementary School in Andover, which led to her determination to become a teacher. She taught until she received her Library Science degree and was the Librarian for many years.
Betty is survived by: daughter, Jeri Stanyer and husband Dan of Augusta, KS; son, David Walters and wife Karen of Jay, OK; daughter, Jan Fasano and husband John of Jay, OK; sister, Joan Bienz of Austelle, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer Allen (Kevin), Chris Stanyer (Jennifer), Berek Walters (Megan), Cassie Walters, Megan Davis (Robert), Mathew Fasano (Jordon); great grandchildren, Jake, Jared, Levi (Kayla), Noah, Brevin, Zade, Bryden, Reece, Mason, River, and Rain. Betty was preceded in death by her twin, Mary Lou Frantz and sisters, Peggy Syring and Doris Wilson.
The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Augusta United Methodist Church.
