Bonnie Donham

The sun is shining a little less today as we say goodbye to Bonnie Donham, affectionately known by all as "The Cookie Lady." On October 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, she peacefully left this world, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and, of course, the most delicious cookies.

Born on July 31,1947 in Wichita, Kansas, Bonnie had a heart as big as her kitchen, always ready to bake a batch of her famous cookies for family, friends, and strangers alike. Her cookies were more than just a treat; they were a symbol of her love and generosity, shared at every gathering, delivered to neighbors, and gifted during times of need. Over the years, she became a beloved figure in the community, known for her sweet treats and even sweeter spirit.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Eloise (Harrington) and Herbert Allen Skaggs; brothers, Ronald Skaggs and David Skaggs; sisters, Barbara Guimond, Patricia Pompa, and Kay Skaggs; Best Friend, Cindy Martin; grandsons, Shane Bushey and Dustin Burns. Although they are no longer with us, Bonnie carried their memories in her heart and honored them with her warmth and generosity.

Beyond her baking, Bonnie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, friend, aunt, and her family was her greatest pride. She believed in the power of small acts of kindness and spent her life spreading joy in the simplest of ways. Whether it was through a warm smile, a kind word, or a plate of fresh cookies, she made everyone feel welcome and cherished.

Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed enough to know her, and every time we bake or share a cookie, we will be reminded of her love, her laughter, and the joy she brought to our lives.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Claude Donham of the home; sons, Scott Donham and Claude Donham III; daughters, Charlene Smith, Kelley Donham, and Vikki Laham; sisters, Ruth Hurtado, Betty French, and Nellie Cervantes-Thomas; goddaughters, Michele Shephard, Marcy Shephard, Deeann Batta, Shannon Schubert, Becky Williams, and Amy Highmoor. She was loved by numerous grandchildren, god grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and compassion will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Graveside service 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2024 at Kansas Veterans Cemetary, Winfield, KS. Dinner to follow at Wilbur Wiens Community Building, 110 S 3rd St, Towanda, KS 67144 at 3:00 p.m.
