Charles Simon Marowski, 86, named after his paternal grandfather, passed away on August 17, 2023 in Wichita, Kansas after a brief but valiant battle with complications from a stroke. He was born at home on February 11, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to Simon and Mary (Sponauer) Marowski (Murauskas), of Lithuanian and German ancestry. He graduated from G.A.R. Memorial High School in 1955. He then served in the United States Air Force as Airman First Class with the 392nd Communications Squadron from 1956-1960 at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi, Trabzon AFB in Izmir, Turkey, and Vandenberg AFB in Lompoc, California. He graduated from King's College in Wilkes-Barre with a Bachelor's in Math and History, from the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pennsylvania with a Master's in Counseling, and continued his post-graduate studies toward his Doctorate at Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland. On July 2, 1966, he married Marian Rose Swartz at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania. They moved to Baltimore, then settled in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, where they raised their two daughters, Mara and Joy. He worked on ore boats in Michigan with his father and tobacco farms in Connecticut, but spent the majority of his career in education, first by teaching Math and Social Studies, then becoming a beloved Guidance Counselor at Cockeysville Middle School in Baltimore County. He also served as a Wrestling Coach. After humble beginnings and a lifetime of hard work, he and his wife retired in Bethany Beach, Delaware, where they stayed for 27 years, even though he hated getting sand between his toes. There he worked maintenance at Sea Colony Condominium Community. In 2017, he and his wife moved to Augusta, Kansas to live next door to his daughter Joy and her family, after spending years of quality visits with his daughter Mara and her family in Georgia.
He was an altar boy, a devout Catholic, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and participated in weekly Eucharistic Adoration until the day of his stroke. He was a kind, gentle and selfless soul, and proudly raised his daughters and grandchildren to be accepting of all. He had a beautiful singing voice, adored music, and loved dancing, especially with his trademark "finger guns". He loved to read history and current events, study the weather (thus he was nicknamed NOAA), fix things, travel, and try new things. He loved walking outdoors, and was especially happy when he spotted a blue heron, egret, or pelican. His life centered around spending time with family. He told those he loved to take time to smell the roses, which he did with every ounce of his being.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marian; his adoring daughters, Mara Lockard (Bill) and Joy Bodyk (Pete); his grandchildren Gabrielle and Xander Lockard, and Andrei Bodyk; his sister Catherine Prozeralik; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Mary Marowski, as well as his brother Edward Marowski (stillborn) and sisters Veronica Marowski, Mary Gorski, and Emily Conway.
