Charley William Havice

Charley William Havice passed on into the arms of Jesus on September 3rd, 2019 at the age of 91. Visitation 1:00 p.m. with funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019, both at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, KS.

Charley was born on March 24, 1928 to Julia Ann Cole Havice and Sida Howard Havice in Dresden, KS. They preceded him in death along with his siblings, Edith Mae, Eva Ann and Junior Howard, one son, Robert Earl Houchin Sr, and his beloved wife of 48 years, Thelma Havice.

Charley and Thelma were married on November 26th, 1969 in Oklahoma. Charley spent 39 years as a technician and crew chief for Beechcraft. Charley and Thelma spent the rest of their years in service to their community in various ways including starting a Beechcraft retiree club, being a long time members of the First Southern Baptist Church of Augusta, and serving as state appointed guardians for people in nursing homes.

Charley, who enlisted in the Army Air Corps at age 17, was also dedicated to serving veterans. Charley held Commander, vice commander, and Chaplin positions of his VFW post for over 30 consecutive years and served in various American Legion positions during this time.

Charley is survived by one sister, Jeanetta of Missouri; one son, William Houchin, wife Pat of Augusta, KS; a daughter in law, Cindy Houchin of Azel, TX; 6 grandchildren: Wayne Aikman (Pamela), Shannon Canard, Robert Earl Houchin, Jr. (Amy), Christopher Houchin (Delania), Kathryn Melvin (Andrew), and Clinton Houchin; 8 great grandchildren: Finn Canard, Angel Houchin, Riley Houchin, Raylan Houchin, Bailie Ann Houchin, Elizabeth Aikman, Isabella Aikman and Grant Melvin as well as several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at the First Southern Baptist Church 2206 Ohio, Augusta KS, 67010.
