Cheri "Cherie" Kay (Betty) Dodds passed away June 3, 2022 surrounded by family. Cheri was born July 2, 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota while her parents were on vacation. Cheri graduated from Kiowa High School in 1968 and Kansas State University in 1972 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. On November 27, 1969 she married Dennis Dean Dodds in Kiowa, Kansas.
After graduating from Kansas State, Cheri followed Dennis to Louisiana where she lived until he completed his basic and advanced training in the Army Reserves. They moved to Topeka, Kansas and Cheri taught elementary school in Hoyt, Kansas. After living in West Virginia for a short time where she was a substitute teacher, they moved back to Kansas and Cheri taught Preschool, Second Grade and Kindergarten in Augusta for 28 years.
Family was especially important to Cheri as evidenced by weekly family meals, initiating family trips and spending time with granddaughters including attending all of their activities. She also enjoyed the family attending the first K-State home football game every year.
Cheri was active in the Augusta United Methodist Church where she served on various committees, helped with funeral dinners and participated in adult Sunday School classes. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed using that skill for church activities and mission work the church was involved in.
Cheri was always busy and enjoyed cooking, flowers, gardening, sewing, cross stitching, scrapbooking and spoiling her granddaughters. Cheri was also a huge fan of Kansas State University and along with Dennis for years had season tickets to football, women's basketball and men's basketball.
Cheri was preceded in death by her parents, Renetta L. (Oglesby) and John F. Betty.
Cheri is survived by her husband Dennis, her sons Brian Dodds and his wife Katie of Goddard, Brent Dodds and his wife Julie of rural Augusta; her granddaughters Karli Blazer and her husband Dalton of Fallbrook, California, Kennadee Dodds and Kyndall Dodds of rural Augusta. She is also survived by her sisters Deanna Mott, Kiowa, KS and Teresa Lancaster, Derby, KS.
Closed casket visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Headley Funeral Chapel. Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2022 at Augusta United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Memorial donations may be made to the Augusta High School Choir c/o Headley Funeral Chapel.
