Darren Charles Barker, 45, of Augusta, KS, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in Wichita, KS surrounded by his family. He was born on December 19, 1978, in a specialty hospital near Kansas City, MO, to Kenneth and Rebecca Barker. Darren grew up in Bethany, MO, before he and his family made the move to Augusta, KS in 1986, where he would call home for the rest of his life. He graduated from Augusta High School in 1997 and initially pursued a career in the aircraft industry. However, his true passion was in the construction field, working alongside his father and older brother. Darren was baptized on November 24, 1991, at Prairie Hills Southern Baptist Church.
On November 11, 2011, Darren married the love of his life, Duana Marie Monaghan, at the First Christian Church in El Dorado, KS. Together, they built a family of four, welcoming two sons, Braxten Michael Barker, age 12, and Caiden Patrick Barker, age 8, who were the light of Darren's life. Darren worked as a Construction Superintendent for various companies over the years, including Kansas Paving, Builders Plus, Crossland Construction, Simpson Construction, and his most recent employer, Law Construction.
Darren's greatest joy came from being with his family, his love for them knew no bounds, especially for his two boys, whom he adored. He cherished every moment spent watching them both play baseball, wrestle, and run the football fields. He loved riding his motorcycle, camping with his family and friends, listening to music, and, of course, enjoying his nice cold Pepsi. He was a dedicated and loving father, always by his boys' sides, supporting them as they grew and learned. Darren's love and devotion to his wife, Duana, was unwavering; he loved her deeply and made sure she knew it every day. His kindness, warmth, and love extended to everyone around him - whether as a father, son, brother, son-in-law, uncle, brother-in-law, or friend. Darren's legacy will live on in his two boys and the hearts of all who knew him.
Darren is survived by his wife, Duana; his two sons, Braxten and Caiden Barker of Augusta, KS; his parents, Kenneth and Rebecca Barker of Augusta; his older brother, Mike Barker and wife Tiffany of Augusta, KS; his mother-in-law, Kelley Monaghan of Augusta, KS; his sister-in-law, Shonda Thomason and husband Scott; his sister-in-law, Andria Monaghan; his brother-in-law, Brenden Monaghan; nieces and nephews, Erik Ward, Dylan (Sara), Devin, and Gavin (Tatum) Barker, Damon and Taylor Thomason, Daltin, Brock, Denver, Jali, and Jada Apel; and his great niece and nephew, Hayden Ann and Hudson Lee Barker. He was preceded in death by his Grandma and Grandpa Holcomb and Grandma and Grandpa Barker.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. A funeral service will be held in his honor at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at NewSpring Church, 12200 E 21st St N, Wichita, KS.
