Elsie Eleanor George

Elsie Eleanor George, 96, of Augusta, KS, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 at her home. Service 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, KS. Elsie was born in Alma, KS on September 8, 1926, to the late Anna (Banka) and Carl Thowe. She graduated college from Kansas State University. She was a city clerk for the City of Augusta for 37 years and had also been a teacher. Elsie was an active and faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Augusta for 73 years, and was also a member of Soroptimist - Member of Tabitha. Her hobbies included quilting for the church as well as gardening and cooking.  She was married to Herman Ray George and he preceded her in death on December 13, 1970. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harry, Leland, and Wilmer Thowe; grandson, Jason Poffinbarger. She is survived by: daughter, Karen Mauk and husband Bill of Olathe, KS; son, Alan George of Texas; daughter, Aleda Poffinbarger and husband Jim of El Dorado, KS; sister, Anita Herbert of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren, Donnie Mauk (Jo), Monica Swartley (Mike), Nathan Poffinbarger, Joshua Poffinbarger; great grandchildren, Dylan Mauk, Leah, Shea, and Reece Swartley, Devan Poffinbarger (Mallory), Gage Poffinbarger, Xander, Jonah, Isabelle, and Oliver Poffinbarger; great-great grandson, Ayden Mauk.
