Eugene "Gene" Donald Hainstock, 72, of Augusta, KS, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024.
Gene was born on May 18, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois to Donald J. and Alice G. (Hicks) Hainstock. He lived in Chicago, Illinois, Stratton Meadows, Colorado, Hicks Field Hawaii, and Security, Colorado as his father was in the Army. Gene graduated from Widefield High School in 1971. Gene was a certified scuba diver and attended Colorado Electronic Technical College, had a pilot's license, and attended Colorado Aerotech School to obtain his aircraft mechanics and ground instructors license which he received in 1977.
He moved to Broomfield, Colorado where he met his wife Lois (Coberley) and they were married on March 31, 1978 in Westminster, Colorado. Gene worked for Broomfield Drugstore while getting his license and then Beech Aircraft Missile Division of Boulder, Colorado. In 1987 he was transferred to Beech Aircraft in Wichita and worked for them in missiles and flight inspection for 34 years. He moved to Augusta, Kansas where he resided until his death. In 2012 Gene went to work for the State of Kansas and worked at the El Dorado Correctional Facility until he retired on his 65th birthday.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Scott; son, Michael Lee Hainstock
He is also survived by: wife, Lois Hainstock; son, Brian Hainstock of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Crystal Hainstock of Wichita, Kansas; several cousins; many sister and brother in laws; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Service 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery Augusta, Kansas.
