When she was two years old, her parents moved to a farm four miles northeast of Toronto. She attended Lovett School District 66 the first four years. After losing their farm during the depression, the family moved to Greenwood County where Evelyn attended Miller School District where she graduated from 8th grade. She attended Toronto High School and graduated in 1946. After graduation she worked in a grocery store to make enough money to attend Chanute Jr. College the next summer. She received a certificate to teach. She continued to attend summer school and teach winters for the next five years. Her first year of teaching was Lovett School where she had gone to school as a child. She also taught at Fancy School and Flower Hill School.
On June 1, 1952 she married her high school sweetheart, Hugh Richardson. To this union two children were born: a son, Mark and a daughter, Melody. After Evelyn was married, they moved to Fairport, KS and taught in a neighboring town of Paradise, KS. Evelyn taught two years in 5th and 6th grades and four years in 1st and 2nd grades. She paused her teaching career when her children were little.  When they both reached school age, she began substitute teaching in the Augusta schools. She returned to full time teaching in 1981 and taught 2nd grade at Robinson Elementary School for 10 years.
After retirement, she and her husband, Hugh, traveled throughout Canada and the United States in a small motorhome. They spent part of many winters in McAllen, TX.
Evelyn was very active in the First Christian Church of Augusta. She taught Sunday school and served on several church committees. She was an active member of Gideon's International Auxiliary. Evelyn served as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader for many years as well as Girl Scout council positions.
