Hugh Richardson was born June, 7th 1928 on a farm southeast of Eureka, Kansas to Ernest C. and Sarah Esther (Ward) Richardson. Hugh attended a one room school house through eighth grade, Neal High School for two years, and Toronto High School where he graduated.

Hugh entered the Army, and served in the Corps of Engineers as a Company Clerk at Ft. Belvoir.  He attended Kansas State Teachers College, graduating in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in Education.  In later years, he earned Master's degrees in Business Education and Library Science.
Hugh taught in high schools throughout central Kansas. In 1966 he joined the faculty at Butler County Junior College as librarian and instructor. He rose to the position of Director of Library Services and retired after serving the college for 29 years.

On June 1, 1952, Hugh married Evelyn Ireland at at her home near Toronto Kansas.  To this union two children were born; a son Mark, and a daughter Melody.
Hugh was active in the First Christian Church in Augusta, Kansas for many years. He was a member of Gideon's International and a member of the American Legion Post #65 at Whitewater.
Hugh died on June 25, 2018 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in Eldorado, KS.   He is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 66 years; son Mark Richardson and daughter-in-law Lisa of Wichita; daughter Melody Hobson and son-in-law David of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren Hannah Richardson of Spokane, WA, Crystal Hobson of Bellevue, NE, and Dashiell Hobson of Lincoln NE.

Visitation will be held on Thursday June 28, 6-8pm at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, Kansas.    Funeral service will be on Friday, June 29, 2:00pm at First Christian Church, 1600 State Street, Augusta, KS. Internment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, Kansas.  Memorial donations can be made to First Christian Church, Augusta or Gideon's International.
