James T. "Jim" Ashcraft, 91, of Augusta, KS, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018. Service 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018, at First Christian Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, KS. Jim was born in Cambridge, KS on March 2, 1927, to the late Myrtle (Logsdon) and Roy Paul Ashcraft. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was stationed in Germany. Jim graduated from Southwestern University, and later received his Master's Degree from Emporia State University. Jim was a teacher at Augusta High School for several years and was later the principal for 20 years. Prior to moving to Augusta in 1958, he was also a teacher for Ark City Schools for 2 years and was a teacher and coach at Cambridge for 6 years. He also served as a driver's education teacher. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Augusta where he was an Elder Emeritus. He was also a member of KASSP, Butler County Teachers Association, the Optimist Club of Augusta, and the American Legion of Augusta. On October 6, 1945 he married Mary Lou (Brown) Ashcraft in Tyler, TX. She preceded him in death after 72 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul Ashcraft; sisters, Wauneta Townsend, and Virginia Snodgrass; grandson, Sean Tolle. He is survived by: daughters, Kathryn Shumard and husband Ron of Augusta, KS, Diane Staggs and husband Mike of Branson, MO, Becky Williamson and husband Larry of Augusta, KS; sister, Vedia Roads of Wellington, KS; grandchildren, Kara Seat, Logan James (Luke), Jayna Williamson, Aaron Staggs (Jackie), Matthew Williamson; 5 great grandchildren.
