Kathryn 'Pat' Magdalene Grantham

Kathryn 'Pat' Magdalene Grantham, 97, died peacefully with family by her side, on Friday, March 22, 2024 in Wheat Ridge, CO. She was born in Fort Scott, KS on December 8, 1926 to Avery and Roberta Maloney. A short time later she moved to Wichita and attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Robinson Middle School and Wichita High School East, where she graduated in 1944. She later attended the University of Kansas as a Kappa Alpha Theta. Pat graduated from the University of Wichita, (now Wichita State University) with a Bachelor of Arts in 1948.

Pat is survived by her nine children: Mary Francis Dix (spouse, Mike Brittain), Margaret Carrell (spouse Dan Carrell), Teresa Grantham, Daniel Grantham (spouse Ernestine Grantham), John Grantham, Martha Magill (spouse Kenny Magill), Martin Grantham (spouse Mai Grantham), Judith Miller (spouse Dave Miller), Christopher Grantham. She is also survived by her twin sister, Carolyn 'Peggy' Sinning; 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Avery and Roberta Maloney; her spouse, Jack Grantham; brother, John Maloney; and sisters, Mary Golden and Eleanor Knott.

Pat married Jack Grantham in 1948 and had 9 children. While raising her 9 children, she worked as an accountant, medical administrator, and started a small business, Security Shredding. Her unyielding faith as a catholic was demonstrated by her countless hours as a volunteer and support of St. James Catholic Church in Augusta KS. She obtained the 3rd Order of Carmelite vows.

Her passion for life never slowed as reflected by her learning to fly in her 40s, windsurfing in her 50s, skiing in her 60s, and violin lessons in her late 70s.  She was elected to the state of Kansas' Silver Haired Legislature in her 80s.

A rosary will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 all on Thursday, April 4, 2024 both at St. James Catholic Church, 1012 E Belmont Ave, Augusta, KS 67010. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Augusta, KS.  A reception and lunch will follow the graveside at St. James.
