Keith Wayne "PK" Cross was born November 3rd, 1951 to Charles Mark & Celena Cross in Anamosa, Iowa and died on Saturday, October 20, 2018 in Wichita, KS at the age of 66 years.
Keith grew up mostly in the small town of Center Junction, Iowa. Keith attended Midland High School in Wyoming, Iowa. He finished high school through the GED program.
On May 26, 1968 Keith & Kathy (Knight) were united in marriage at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello, Iowa.
Keith worked for Osterkamp's Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning prior to working with his father & starting his own excavating business. Keith was a heavy equipment operator & through the early years worked for a logging company & did dirt work for other construction companies.
In March of 1975 Keith joined the United States Air Force & was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico. He was honorably discharged from the military in March of 1979; went back to Iowa where he owned a welding shop & back-hoe service. He sold out in 1981 & the family moved back to Clovis, NM where he was a foreman of an asphalt plant for K Barnett & Sons Road Construction.
In 1984 Keith attended Sunset School of Preaching, later called, Sunset International Bible Institute, in Lubbock, Texas; where he received a Bachelor's degree in Ministry. Later he received another Bachelor's in Bible through The Theological University of America which is an accredited Church of Christ school. He then went on & received a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Studies & a Doctorate in Divinity through the same university.
In 1987 Keith served the North A Street Church of Christ in Elwood, IN for two years. The family then moved to Winfield, KS where he served the Church of Christ for four years. Following this they went to work at Turley Children's Home in Oklahoma as house parents, where they served for two years. In late 1994 the family moved to Douglass, KS where he served the Church of Christ for eighteen years. In 2012 Keith became the pastor for the 1st Christian Church in Augusta, KS & has been serving there to the present time.
Keith started his long hard journey on October 15th, 2017 when he was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL) & then two months later Pancreatic Cancer.
Keith is survived by his wife Kathy; five children Tracy (Steve) Cates, of Clyde, Texas; Wendy (Matthew) Killough, of Lubbock, Texas; Kimberly (Cameron) Sanders, of Midland, Texas; Brian (Chrissy) Cross, of Nacogdoches, Texas; Becky (Joe) Rush, of Udall, Kansas; brother, William Cross and wife Donna of Cedar Rapid, Iowa; sister, Betty Neumann and husband Eldon of Beloit, WI.and thirteen grandchildren - Mikaela, Caleb & Kent Cates; Coby & Garret Killough; Khloee Sanders; Cooper, Kenndall, Clayton & Karsyn Cross; Mya, Quintyn & Zoey Rush. Keith is preceded in death by his, parents, Charles Mark & Celena Cross and infant grandaughter Hadyn Rush.
Viewing Wednesday 1-8 p.m. with family to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Service 11 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018, at First Christian Church, Augusta. Private family inurnment will be at Winfield Veterans Cemetery, Winfield, KS. Memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church 1600 State Street Augusta, Kansas 67010.
