Laurel Anne Becker

Laurel Anne Becker, 88, of Augusta, KS, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 at home. Laurel was born in Redvale, Colorado on February 3, 1935, to Millard and Myrtle (Paulson) Marshall. Growing up, she lived in Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Kansas. She graduated from Kinsley High School in Kinsley, Kansas in 1953. Laurel attended Kansas University, living in Watkins Scholarship Hall. She graduated in the spring of 1957. Laurel married her high school sweetheart, Gary Becker, in Danforth Chapel on the campus of KU on June 23, 1957. It was a marriage that lasted until his death in 2005. Her teaching career included schools in Floresville, Texas, and Phillipsburg and Augusta, Kansas. Her tenure as Spanish teacher at Augusta High School began in 1967 and concluded with her retirement in 1983. Laurel was active in the community. She served on the library board and was a long-time member of Friends of the Library. She volunteered with Harry Hynes Hospice and also delivered Meals on Wheels. Line dancing at the senior center, playing bridge, and weekly lunch bunch gatherings were activities that she enjoyed with friends. Time spent with family was a great joy to her and she loved being present at their events. She was dearly loved and as Proverbs 31:28 states, "Her children rise up and call her blessed."
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary; brother, William Marshall; and sister, Elaine Hubach. She is survived by: sons, Paul Becker and wife Gail of Augusta, Will Becker and wife Dawn of Boerne, TX; grandchildren, Kayla Terrell (Benjamin), Luke Becker (Sarah), Aaron Becker (Amy), Anna Becker, Audra Strube (Kasey), Bryan Becker, Josh Becker (Emily); 8 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Augusta United Methodist Church, Augusta, KS.
