Mary Fehring, 96, of Augusta, KS, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023 in Wichita. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. There will be no visitation and a private burial will take place at a later date, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, MO. Mary was born in Oronogo, MO on October 20, 1926, to the late Lulu N. (Ulmer) and William Albert Leggett. She graduated from Alba High School in Alba, MO. Mary worked as a bookkeeper at Coffeyville Merchant Services and Pennington Wholesale Drug. On November 1, 1946 she married James H. Fehring in Joplin, MO. They also resided in other communities earlier in their marriage, including Kansas City while Jim attended pharmacy school and Mary worked at Rockhill Savings and Loan. Early on in Jim's pharmaceutical career, they lived in Topeka, where their first son James Albert was born, and Emporia, where their daughter Margaret Ann was born. They moved back to Coffeyville shortly thereafter. Jim and Mary owned 4th Street Pharmacy in Coffeyville, KS and Mary worked as the bookkeeper. After retirement in 1989, they moved to Augusta. Jim preceded her in death on November 3, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Maggie Duncan, her brothers, Ernest, Albert, Alvin, Henry, Milford, Lloyd Leggett; and sisters, Beatrice Shoemaker, Nellie Howard, Myrtle Gillard, Cora Gunlock, Opal Olson. Mary enjoyed bowling, gardening, tending to her flowers and spending time with family. Mary is survived by a son, James A. Fehring and wife Debbie of Bixby, OK; son-in-law, Steve Duncan of Augusta; grandchildren, Katie Harrison (Monty) and Jaymie Cryderman; great grandchildren, Lane Duncan, Rylie and Will Cryderman, and Jerra and Maverick Harrison; niece and nephew-in-law Sharon and Dean Martin, and many other numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Preschool, 1501 State Street Augusta, KS 67010. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Covenant Care Senior Living and Harry Hynes Hospice in addition to friends Clara Heinz, Joe and Liz Frawley, Shawn Blue, Diana Ohman, and Roxanne Erickson for their special care of Mary.
