Mary "Mitzi" Margaret Winger

Mary "Mitzi" Margaret (Madl) Winger, 77, passed away at Chisholm Place Care Home on April 10, 2025, after a lengthy battle with dementia. She was born July 27, 1947, in Independence, MO, the eldest of three children of Gerald Lewis and Vera Belle (Paris) Madl. Her early life was spent in rural Long Lane, MO, just up the road from her grandmother, Paris. After the death of her grandmother, her family relocated to Paola, KS. She attended parochial school at Holy Cross and had her freshman and sophomore education at Ursuline Academy. Mitzi completed high school at Paola High, graduating in the class of 1965. She earned her cosmetology license in 1965 and then practiced her trade. In 1968, after a two-year courtship, she married the love of her life, Clinton Winger. They later moved to rural Augusta, KS. in 1977. She ran her own cleaning business until she became the secretary at Leon Grade School where she worked for 22 years until her retirement in May 2007.
Mitzi was an avid sports fan with the Kansas City Chiefs being her favorite, followed by the Royals and KSU. She coached girls' softball for 12 years. She was a devout Christian and a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She never met a stranger, and loved and always had time for children. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren - shopping with them, attending their many sporting events, and always spoiling them.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Edward John. She is survived by: her spouse, Clinton; half-sister, Carol; her daughters, Tammy (John) Deters of Silver Lake and Jana (Chris) Vinduska of Wichita; her son, Tyson (Jessica) Reel of Mattawon, MI; two grandsons, Drew Deters (Hailey) and Nicholas Vinduska; one granddaughter, Jenna Deters; one great-granddaughter, Laynie Mae; nephews, Chris (Bobbie Jo) King of Tucson, Jon (Laura Anne) Madl of Lantana, TX, Jeff (Brittney) of Aubrey, TX, Thomas Madl (Brooke) of New Caney, TX; nieces, Valerie (Richard) Ashwell of Naperville, IL, Jennifer (Philip) Gonzales of Lewisville, TX, Clarissa (Kyle) Hightower of Denton, TX; and several great-nephews and nieces.
