Maxine Cecilia Roberts

Maxine Cecilia Roberts, 97, of Augusta, KS, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021. Maxine was born in Council Bluffs, IA on March 21, 1923, to the late Margaret (Carlin) and Howard C. Thompson. Maxine married Fred Wingate in April of 1942, and he preceded her in death in 1962. She and Fred had two sons together. Fred Wingate was born February 2, 1944. Fred had an untimely death on November 8, 2008. Mark Wingate was born July 21, 1949, and he died on January 12, 2008. On August 8, 1969 she married Bill Roberts. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1982. She is survived by: 3 grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, and Bill; great granddaughter, Joella Marie; nieces and nephews, Kathy Schweiss, Jodi Scholl, Bill Grego, Ron Grego, Julie and Jeff Booker, Bret and Kelli Poulos, Pam Rasmussen, and their families; sister-in-laws, Barbara Middleton and husband Evan; Bonnie Poulos, LaDonna Poulos; friend, Theresa Phillips. Maxine was a good wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Maxine was a waitress for 25 years working at the Home Cafe on Broadway in Council Bluffs, IA as well as the Maid Rite Restaurant. She was a firm believer in prayer. She and her two sons were baptized at First Baptist Church in Council Bluffs, IA on New Year's Eve 1962. She remembered the water was NOT warm! Maxine will be missed! Visitation 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta. Those who wish to attend, may call the funeral home to set up a time to come in that day. Maxine will be laid to rest beside her husband Fred in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs, IA.
