Following visitation, the family will hold a celebration of life from 12:00 p.m unitl 2:00 p.m. at the Augusta Historic Frisco Train Depot & Welcome Center, 618 State Street, Augusta, Kansas.
Morgan McCoin died January 1, 2024 of a heart attack while driving home to Wichita after visiting his sister for the New Year's Holiday. He passed instantly and his vehicle left the road, but no other people were involved.
Morgan grew up in Goddard, Kansas and graduated with the Goddard Class of 1988. He always had a beautiful singing voice and was active in the choir, drama club and band.
Morgan is survived by his five children and one grandchild: triplet daughters, Morguen McCoin, Mickie McCoin and Mollie McCoin Paton and husband Jon; son, Austin McCoin and wife Aubrie and their newborn son Atley Rhodes McCoin, (whom Morgan missed meeting by 1 day); son, Grant McCoin; and Cara McCoin, mother of his children and love of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Dalese McCoin Beals and brother-in-law, Kent Beals.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Alice McCoin of Goddard, Kansas.
Morgan was an ambitious and hard-working man. At a young age, he was a member and past master of the Morton Lodge #258 in Cheney, Kansas.  At eighteen, he began work for the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department, working his way up from the jail to the road patrol and to the D.A.R.E. program. He often worked more than one job at a time to support his growing family. He moved to Tennessee and worked for the Hendersonville Police Department there, where one day he happened to meet June Carter Cash when she called for help because of unusual noise in the basement, which turned out to be a squirrel. While in Tennessee, Morgan opened a garage called C.A.R.S. (Comprehensive Auto Repair Services) and it kept him busy in his off time. He moved back to Kansas when his girls graduated, and went to work at Cessna as a painter for some time. He became a bail bondsman and made many new friends, as he put it, helping people in and out of jail.
Morgan became interested in motorcycles and belonged to a group that would go out for rides to some area small towns for Saturday breakfasts or lunches. His motorcycle club is full of good people, participating in the Christmas Toy Run and other community projects. He also regularly socialized with a group at Fat Ernie's, a south side Wichita eatery. He raised Boston Terriers, always had a story of some sort to entertain people with, and in general had a good and happy life, enjoyed by all who knew him.
His death was and is such a shock for everyone who knew him. None of his friends and family will ever forget him and as his sister, I will miss him every day for the rest of my life.
