The irascible Nathan "Nate the Bald Boss" Knapp, 69, was surrounded by his family and close friends when he was called Home on October 29, 2020 after his fierce battle with cancer. Nate was born in Winfield, KS on March 5, 1951 to Meryl (Kunkel) and Cecil "Peak" Knapp. His "stubborn streak" may have started after he was sucked out of the house window during the 1955 Udall tornado - or maybe it had something to do with all that red hair. He married the love of his life, Polly Jayne (Little) on a beautiful day in June 1973. Nate and Polly made their home in Douglass, raising a son, Shilo, and a daughter, Amanda, but their family was not limited to this small circle. Their circle included the friends and families of his children and grandchildren as well his co-workers and neighbors. He retired from Spirit after spending many years as an FAA Inspector.
He enjoyed people, coaching, horseshoes, fishing, hunting, and woodworking. Being a craftsman came in handy - he was always ready to tackle any problem, no matter who created it - himself included. He was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone, whether it was mowing a lawn, fixing broken things, moving furniture, or helping his neighbors with whatever was needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Dan Wells. He leaves his family (as well as his friends) to continue his legacy of handling all situations with humor and grace: Polly, Shilo (Nikki) Knapp of North Liberty, IA; Amanda Campbell of Salina, KS; his sister, Christine Wells of Udall; his grandchildren, Samanatha (Jason) Loux, Izaiah Ligon, Jayden, and Shaun Knapp; his great-grandchildren, J.P. and Liam Loux; his nephews, Christoper and Travis Wells, and their families.
