Phyllis Collene (Foote) Hanna entered this life on September 16, 1939 at Hockersville, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ruby (Smith) Foote and Arby Foote. She later lived in Quapaw, Oklahoma; then Wichita, Kansas where she met Charles Hanna on a blind date. They were married August 28, 1955 in Wichita, and had 66 years together. Born to this union were three lovely children; Buck, Susan and Steven. Added to this family as the years passed were Buck's wife, Sharon; Susan's husband, Bob; and Steven's wife, Nondie. Six wonderful grandchildren followed: Ashleigh Hanna; Zac Hanna; Hanna Moews; Logan Maier, and his wife, Chelsea; Maggie Hall, and her husband, Scott; and Cortney Hanna; along with four very smart great-grandchildren: Lilleigh Hewett, Jackson Moews, Alexander Moews, and Walter Maier. Phyllis cherished her family and held each child and grandchild in her heart as uniquely special and sacrificially loved. Phyllis also leaves a sister, Jerry Becker; and three nieces, Dawn, Becky, and Kelly, all of Wichita. Phyllis could not fathom working and leaving her children with someone else to care for, so she reversed the roles: She watched other children so their mothers could work. In 45 years of day care she watched 100 children, all of whom were very dear to her and Charles. When Phyllis' kids started school at Garfield she was always a room mother and active in P.T. A. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a Brownie Troop leader and a Sunday School teacher. Phyllis was a member and Past Matron of Augusta Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She bowled for many years. In her later years she enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, playing cards, Bingo, and Bunco; and truly enjoyed spending time with her family. Phyllis' favorite Bible verse was Psalm 145:8 "The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love." Phyllis passed away surrounded by her family at home on October 29, 2021. Visitation 6-8 pm Tuesday and funeral services 10 am Wednesday, November 3 all at Headley Funeral Chapel. Burial will be 2 pm at Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Winfield. Memorials to First Southern Baptist Church, Augusta.
