Thomas Dean Reiling

Thomas Dean Reiling, 75, passed away July 2, 2022 with his family at his side. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, who created many happy memories for his family.

Tom was born in Carroll, Iowa on August 29, 1946 to Richard and Mary Reiling. He was the second of their seven children. Following high school, he served 2 years in the Marine Corps during Vietnam.

Coming home from the service, Tom took a job selling insurance alongside his father. Soon after he moved to Wichita, KS. He loved the warmer weather and the possibility of golf year round. In the spring of 1976, he met and married the love of his life, Carol Sobba. They married after 6 weeks and spent the next 47 years together. After residing in Wichita for 2 years, they moved to their permanent home in Augusta, where they became long time members of the St. James Catholic Church.

In 1979 they rejoiced at the birth of their son, Adam. In 1985 they welcomed Monica Marie into their world. He was very involved in their lives, coaching ball at times, for both. He loved attending their school plays and concerts. Teaching each of them to drive may have caused him a few grey hairs, but he would not have had it any other way.

Tom spent 27 years working for the company he loved, Boeing. The last several years he was Labor Relations Manager, working with various labor unions. After retirement from Boeing, he worked for the Unemployment Security Board of Review for the state of Kansas.

He enjoyed his work, but loved Carol more and took early retirement so they could travel. Tom and Carol visited many places, but always returned to Augusta. Tom's whole world was his family, with some golf thrown in. He loved spending time with his 3 grandboys, doing all sorts of things, whatever they wanted. His cell phone screensaver starred those 3 boys, fishing in a lake, and he took every opportunity he had to show them off.

Proceeded in death by his parents Richard and Mary Reiling and sister Shirley Bates. Tom is survived by his loving wife Carol, son Adam, daughter Monica Furr and her husband Seth, grandsons, Lynden, Ben, and Corbin; sisters Marilyn Reiling, Linda Butler, Patty Scobba (Charles), brothers Bob (Brenda), Ron (Pina) and their extended families. Also survived by his aunts Donna Mae Reiling, Mary Anne Rowe, and Marlene Rowe.

Rosary Thursday July 7 at 7pm. Mass Friday July 8 at 10 am, both at St. James Catholic Church.
