Thomas Allen Snider

Thomas Allen Snider, 78, of Towanda, KS, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at home. Memorial service 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Prairie Rose Ranch Opera House, 15231 SW Parallel St, Benton, KS. Thomas was born in Salem, NE on July 3, 1944, to the late Rena Kathleen (Peck) and Jesse James Snider. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during the Vietnam War, 2 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves, and retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 20 years. Tom was the last of the BT men (boiler operator), which provided the ship heat while they were at sea, and assisted breaking ice for other ships to sail. Following retirement from the Coast Guard, he worked as a custodian at WSU and Andover Schools. On March 9, 1972 he married Helen (Pocinich) in Santa Maria, CA who survives him. He is also survived by: son, Patrick Snider and wife Ananda of Wichita, KS; daughter, Judy Schild and husband Gene of Augusta, KS; grandchildren, Haley Schild, Johnathan Schild, Scott Schild, Braden Snider, Mya Schild; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons, Scott and Daniel Allen; brothers, James, Charles, Lloyd, Bob, George, and Marvin Snider.
