Timothy Allen Plett, younger son of Jake and Hulda Thiessen Plett, was born in Goessel, Kansas on December 14, 1948 and passed away Monday, November 1, 2021 at the age of 72 due to cancer.
The Plett family moved to Butler County in 1950 to operate a dairy farm west of Leon. Tim grew up on the farm, milking cows, driving tractors, and putting up hay. He graduated from Leon High School in 1967 and attended Butler County College. Tim served in the USNR and did active duty as an electrician aboard a ship off the coast of Viet Nam. In the late 1970s Tim became an apprentice for Elmer Kilgore Masonry. He and Elmer built rock, brick and block things all over Butler and Greenwood counties for about 10 years. Later, Tim worked for the KTA where he retired after 29 years.
Tim and his family lived near Cassoday for many years and moved to rural Rose Hill in 2012. He was a gardener, motorcycle enthusiast, and do-it-yourselfer. Tim had been trained to do electrical wiring, build cabinets and furniture, operate heavy equipment, breed cows using AI, build fireplaces, and many other things. He enjoyed farm auctions, sudoku puzzles, reading the newspaper, and discussing current events.
Tim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patti Plett, a son, Travis Plett, daughter-in-law, Sara Plett, and grandchildren, Hudson and Tesla Plett, all of rural Rose Hill. Other survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, John and Pat Plett, and sister, Cathy Plett, of Andover. Tim will be missed by his many relatives and friends.
A memorial gathering with family will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, KS. Memorial donation may be made to PBS - Kansas, 320 W. 21st Street North, Wichita, KS 67203.
