John J. Hoefgen, 76, of Augusta, KS, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021 at home. Visitation from 9:00 - 9:30 a.m., followed by Rosary at 9:30 a.m., and Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. all Thursday, July 15, 2021, at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery Augusta, KS.
They broke the mold when Johnny H was born on March 22, 1945, in Wichita, KS. He was the first of 5 children born to Mary (Raple) and the late Roscoe "Jack" Hoefgen. Raised as a farming family with a healthy dose of hard work and honesty. John used those tools along with his uncanny sense of "blunt bullshitery" humor and storytelling to become a gifted car salesman. This 35-year career provided for his family and brought him an endless supply of once customers, now friends.
On January 15, 1966 he married the love of his life, Donna June (Defore) Hoefgen at St. James Catholic Church. A true Johnny and June, they built a 55-year foundation based on: love, forgiveness, honesty, and laughter that no amount of strife or tribulation could break. They are a true example of a, "now that's how it's done couple."
Together they weathered the passing of two daughters Jacque and Barbara Hoefgen. His legacy survives with wife Donna, daughter, Jenny Uhrmacher and husband Richard, son, Nick Hoefgen and wife Sarah, mother, Mary Hoefgen; brothers, Robert Hoefgen and wife Robin, Bill Hoefgen and wife Sue, all of Augusta; along with brother, Joe Hoefgen and wife Atefeh of Long Beach, CA; sister, Pat Coiner and husband Dale of El Dorado, KS.
John's grandchildren held an extra special place in his heart. He made it a point to pass on as much orneriness as humanly possible to them: Jordan Johnson (Jeremy), Jacob Uhrmacher, Haylee, Miles, Kayden, and Harper Hoefgen; great granddaughter, Jensen Taylor Johnson.
A faithful Husband, devoted father, and fierce friend. He will be missed but not forgotten. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. James Catholic Church Good Shepherd Atrium, or youth mission group at St. James Catholic Church, 1012 Belmont Avenue, Augusta, KS 67010.
