Mark Eugene Black, 69, of Andover, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at home with his wife Linda by his side. He was born on June 13, 1954 in Hutchinson, Kansas to the late Joan Marvella (Starks) and Merle Dean Black.
On Friday, July 13, 2012 he married Linda (Kirkpatrick) King Black in Augusta, KS. They shared 11 years of marriage, but joked all together they had been married 50 years as they both had been married before.
Mark is survived by: wife, Linda; son, Brandon Black and wife April; grandchildren, Alyssa, Aiden, and Ronan; brother, Merle Dean Black, Jr. and wife Cindy; niece, Misty Farrell; nephews, Troy Black, Cory Black (Jason Newell); cousin, Connie King.
Mark talked about his son, Brandon frequently, and how he wished he could have been around more when he was growing up, but being a long distance truck driver took its toll on the family.
Mark held a lot of jobs: auto mechanic, welder, over the road truck driver, electronics, lock smith, machinist, and finally worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation where he retired from in April of 2018 after being diagnosed with dementia. Earlier in his life, he had also served 8 years in the United States Navy where he spent much of his time in Hawaii (lucky guy). He was a jack of all trades, but a master of none - except that of being a loving, caring, and compassionate husband.
Mark served in many positions at church. He was a teacher and board member, and he also sang in the choir and played the drums. Mark enjoyed playing the drums for church, and until the end he still played drums on his legs whenever he heard music.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS.
