Susan Marie (Heath) Smeltzer

Susan Marie (Heath) Smeltzer, 70, of Augusta, KS, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021, at home surrounded by family. The rosary will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2021 and Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2021, both at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta, KS. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Augusta, KS. Susan was born in Garden City, Kansas on May 6, 1950, to the late Wilma Jean (Edsall) and Francis Heath. Susan graduated from K-State with a bachelor's degree in education. She retired as a teacher in Home Economics and Tech Life from the Augusta Middle School after 38 years. Susan was a member of St. James Catholic Church, where she volunteered, and she also volunteered at the Augusta Caring Center. Susan was an avid WSU Shockers fan and she devoted a lot of her time to her grandkids. On June 9, 1973, she married Allan Max Smeltzer in Dighton, Kansas. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Chris Heath, and brothers, Joe and Brian Heath and Paul Smeltzer. Susan is survived by: daughters, Angie Matthews and husband Adrian; and Lisa Smeltzer; son, Adam Smeltzer and wife Kristiana, and bonus son, Chris Fisher, all of Augusta, KS; brother, Steve Heath and wife Mary of Dighton, KS; sisters, Carolyn Dutoit and husband Brent; Marilyn James and husband Alan; Trudy Heath, all of Dighton, KS; Betty Haas and husband Larry of Augusta; Oleta Smeltzer of Shell Knob, MO; and Nancy Bonner and husband Fred of Derby; grandchildren, Emma Roat and Eli Matthews; Chloe, Mia, Aiden and Rhys Smeltzer and Pashence Adkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
