Virginia Lee (Dashner) Ewalt

Virginia Lee (Dashner) Ewalt of Augusta, KS, was born June 8, 1924 on the rural Sinclair Lease SE of Augusta, KS, to Lee and Mamie Dashner. She passed away May 21, 2024.
Virginia attended Tadlock, a one-room country school and ended 8th grade at the age of 12, entering Augusta High School two years younger than her classmates. She graduated with the class of 1940 just before her 16th birthday.
She graduated from Wichita Business College. She worked in Augusta as a Clerk-typist for the Selective Service Draft Board, and Socony-Vacuum Oil Company in their White Eagle Refineries a receptionist and in the shipping department, and at Coleman Company in the personnel department, and as secretary to the Labor Relations Attorney in Wichita. She owned and operated Ewalt Liquor with her husband for over 45 years. Upon selling it, she worked for several years at the White Eagle Antique Mall. She was also a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant.
Virginia belonged to ESA Sorority, BP&W, "Queen" of her Augusta Red Hat Society, and was an active member of Tabitha and Joy Fellowship at Christ Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of two groups.
She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, spanning 14+ years, she was "Mom" to every child who came through her door.
She loved entertaining and parties. Her favorite parties of the year were Halloween and Mardi Gras. She loved dressing up! There wasn't a holiday on the calendar that she didn't decorate for.
She was married to Lawrence Ewalt on July 3, 1947, who preceded her in death on February 2, 1982. Also preceding her in death were her parents; sons: Greg, Monty, and Scott Ewalt.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Ewalt Zinn, grandson Joe Zinn IV, granddaughter, Michelle (Chris) Brewer, and three great-grandchildren: Brittany, Torri and Conner.
Funeral services for Virginia will be held Friday, May 31, 2024, 2 p.m. graveside at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be to Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta Caring Center, or Augusta Senior Center in care of Headley Funeral Chapel, 813 State St., Augusta, KS 67010.
